Attracting Pollinators to your Garden Talk (pay as you feel), 23rd February 2023

This is a pay-as-you-feel (suggested £5) event and we’ll accept donations on the evening of the talk.

Beneficial = pollinators; eaters of pests (ie predators); processors of organic waste; food species for other animals (birds, reptiles, amphibians, mammals)

It is widely reported that over 40% of insect species are currently threatened with extinction. Habitat loss by conversion to intensive agriculture is the main driver of the declines. Agro-chemical pollutants, invasive species and climate change are additional causes.

Many ecologists and biologists have warned of the results of the loss of insect species that has already taken place. Since 70% of the world’s food depends on insect pollination, this will have a disastrous impact on the world’s food supplies and on the survival of many species of both food and non-food plants and trees which rely on insects for pollination.

In our own gardens, we can do our bit to try and slow the decline; by providing a safe and friendly place for pollinators and predators.

During this informal talk, Steve will provide some simple ideas about planting, landscaping and providing shelters for insect life. He’ll use his skills as a woodworker to show you types of shelters you could build and many more!
