Greenwood Community Forest
Nottinghamshire
The Greenwood Community Forest (GCF) covers an area of 400 square kilometres of west Nottinghamshire, from Mansfield in the north to Nottingham in the south and from Eastwood in the west to Farnsfield in the east. The initiative enables Nottinghamshire’s communities to create, enhance and enjoy woodlands and other accessible green spaces in a sustainable way, benefitting the environment, landscape and local economy. GCF champion the multiple benefits of green space, such as health and wellbeing, biodiversity and climate change adaptation, whilst taking a strategic approach to the targeting of tree planting, woodland creation and green space provision in areas affected by economic decline.
GCF facilitate tree planting and woodland establishment and other positive landscape changes, taking into account local green infrastructure strategies as well as the needs of communities, biodiversity, landscape character and the challenges of climate change. To date GCF have planted over 2 million trees with our partners and local communities in the Community Forest area, with more to come through the Trees for Climate programme.
